Poster session at SOUPS 2026

The CCAT team will present a poster at SOUPS (Symposium on Usable Privacy and Security), taking place on 23–26 August 2026 in Hannover, Germany. The poster focuses on improving the usability of four cybersecurity certification and assessment tools (TLS-scanner, SCRUTINY, ALVIE, and sec-certs), based on expert walkthroughs and heuristic evaluations.

The poster addresses a critical gap in the cybersecurity landscape: the friction between complex regulatory requirements and the practical usability of the tools designed to meet them. It explains how a team of six usability experts from Paderborn University (Deepthi Mungara, Harshini Sri Ramulu, Rachel Gonzalez Rodriguez, Ali Cem Kaynak, Yasemin Acar) and Masaryk University (Mariia Bakhtina) collaborated with tool developers using expert walkthroughs (performing typical user tasks) and heuristic evaluations (judging interfaces against established usability principles).

The evaluation identified 307 usability issues across the four CCAT tools (TLS-scanner, SCRUTINY, ALVIE, and sec-certs) covering:

  • documentation and guidance
  • error handling
  • information presentation and visual consistency
  • ease of use for first-time users
